What is xRAN?

xRAN.org was formed to develop, standardize and promote a software-based, extensible Radio Access Network (xRAN) and to standardizing critical elements of the xRAN architecture. The xRAN architecture transforms today’s static, highly proprietary RAN infrastructure into an extensible, software-based service delivery platform capable of rapidly responding to changing user, application and business needs.

Brigade Goals:

  • Implement an ONOS integrated application that follows the xRAN.org’s reference architecture specification for a RAN controller.

Brigade Status:

  • Released a xRAN controller application in Sep 2017 supporting the v3 of the xRAN.org’s specification.

  • Partial support of the northbound functionalities specified in the specification

  • Use cases demo’ed in MWC Americas 2017 in collaboration with an eNodeB vendor (Radisys)

    • PRB Restriction/Policies
    • Handover
  • Support the xRAN.org’s southbound (v5 as of Sep 2017) and northbound specification.

Release:

You can see the documentation of the released controller and also deploy a simple demo on our project wiki page.
